Mobile Welcomes Two Newest Planning Commissioners

As the result of recent State of Alabama legislative action, Mayor Sam Jones has appointed two new members to the Mobile City Planning Commission. The members, Herbert C. Jordon and William D. Curtain, reside in the Mobile Planning Jurisdiction but outside the city limits. These appointments are intended to bring another perspective to the Commission and representation of residents and property owners within the jurisdiction. The new Planning Commission members were sworn in by Mayor Jones on August 18, 2009.

Herbert C. Jordan

Director of Public Relations, Bishop State Community College
Since 1993, Mr. Jordan has received numerous accolades and awards for his work as the Director of Public Relations with Bishop State Community College. Prior to joining Bishop State, he spent 19 years working for the Mobile Press Register as a copy editor, bureau chief and reporter.

Mr. Jordan, a resident of Theodore, Alabama, has a Bachelor of Arts, Sociology degree from Wiley College in Marshall, Texas. He is actively involved with his church as well as various professional and civic organizations within the region.

William D. Curtin

Senior Pastor, The Grace Place United Methodist Church
Since 2006, Mr. Curtin has been the Senior Pastor with The Grace Place United Methodist Church, a church for which he received a grant to establish. The primary focus of the church is providing services, support and a faith community for people in need. Prior to this, Mr. Curtin spent approximately 9 years serving with Tanner Williams United Methodist Church and Christ United Methodist Church.

Mr. Curtin, a resident of Semmes, Alabama, has a Bachelor of Arts degree from Wesley College in Florence, Mississippi, and a Master of Divinity degree from Asbury Theological Seminary in Wilmore, Kentucky. He has received multiple awards for his faith-based work, and is actively involved in a variety of civic, non-profit and faith-based organizations within the region.
