Mobile Weed and Seed to Hold Meetings in Chrichton/Toulminville

Aug 17th, 2009

Mobile Weed and Seed has scheduled two breakfast meetings for businesses in the Chrichton/Toulminville areas. Known as “Safe Shopping Zone Businesses”, the retail establishments in these areas are working closely with Mobile Weed and Seed and the Mobile Police Department to prevent crime within their retail district.

The meetings are as follows:

• Chrichton Zone 2, Thursday, Aug. 20, 7:30-8:30 a.m., Dumas Wesley Community Center, 126 Mobile St.
• Toulminville Zone 1, Thursday, Aug. 27, 10:00 – 11:00 a.m., Weed and Seed Office, 2318 B St. Stephens Rd.

Weed and Seed is a community-based initiative designed to “weed” out problems of neighborhood crime and blight, and “seed” improvements for rebuilding of those neighborhoods. Mobile was one of the first cities in the nation to obtain a Weed and Seed grant. Since the inception of the program in the mid-1990s, the community has put to work more than $2.3 million in federal funds to transform distressed neighborhoods.
