Mobile to Host Advisory Committees to the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights

Monday, August 23, 2004 from 1:15 p.m.- 7:30 p.m. and Tuesday, August 24, 2004 from 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. members of the Alabama, Arkansas, Louisiana and Mississippi U.S. Commission on Civil Rights State Advisory Committee (SACs) will hold a public briefing meeting. The meetings will be at the Radisson Admiral Semmes Hotel, 251 Government Street.

Members will discuss environmental justice and discrimination in the south with a particular interest in the connection between environmental effects on the health of persons or protected classes covered under civil rights laws.

Alabama members include Acting Chairperson of the Advisory Committee, Anne Shumaker of Centre; Michael Davis, and Raphael Maharaj from Mobile; Nancy Alice Wright Carnley of New Brockton; Alston Fitts III of Selma; Dr. Randy Kelley of Gadsden; Harriett Means from Ft. Deposit; Dr. George Munchus III of Birmingham; and Martha Stokes from Carrollton.
