Mobile Tennis Center Renamed for Council President Reggie Copeland

Dec 19th, 2006

The Mobile City Council honored one of its own, renaming the Mobile Tennis Center for Council President and sports enthusiast Reggie Copeland. Councilman Copeland was surprised by Tennis manager Scott Novak and several members of his family with the news at this week’s council meeting held at the Museum of Mobile.

The 50 court Reggie Copeland/Newton Cox Tennis Center, located in west Mobile’s Langan Park, is the world’s largest public tennis facility. Each year, the tennis center creates an economic impact of more than $28 million through the various tournaments held there.

Serving as the chief sports activist for the City of Mobile, Councilman Copeland has overseen the expansion of the tennis center, renovations of the courts, and the addition of indoor courts at the Arthur R. Outlaw Mobile Convention Center.
