Mobile Police Warn of Paving Scam

The Mobile Police Department has become aware of a scam taking place in the Mobile area involving a group of men offering very inexpensive paving services to residents.

One incident reported a citizen being approached by a group of men, one older and three or four men in their 20s, who wanted to pave the victim’s driveway for under $200. The older subject was very insistent, especially after the offer was rejected, stating he had recently finished a “big job around the corner and had some product left and wanted to sell it to [the victim] for cheap.” In this instance, the men finished the job then demanded $1,000 for payment, even driving the citizen to the bank to get the funds.

Vehicles used in this scam were a red and white truck and a gray truck loaded with equipment. The incident occurred in the area of Theodore High School.
