Mobile Police to Host National Night Out, Crime Prevention 5K

On Tuesday, August 7, 2012, Mobile Police will once again host National Night Out, a free family fun event starting at 6:00 p.m. at the fountain area by JC Penny in Bel Air Mall. The celebration is designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness as well as generate support for and recruit participation in local anti-crime programs.

A pre-show acoustic music set by Britt Johnson will begin at 5:00 p.m., with entertainment from the following beginning at 6:00 p.m.:
- James Seals Community Center leading the Walk for Peace
- Brenda Pierce singing the National Anthem
- University of South Alabama Cheerleaders
- Kappa League Steppers
- Mobile Police Officer Roderick Cotton on the saxophone
- a Barber Shop Quartet
- Mobile Police Department Explorer Drill Team
- a demonstration by the Sean Liu Institute
- McGruff the Crime Dog with his friends, Eddie Eagle, South Alabama’s South Paw and many others!

In addition, there will be fingerprint kits for children, gun locks for child safety, a cookie cake from the Cookie Company, many vendors and door prizes for participants age 18 and older. This free event will conclude at 9:00 p.m.

The Mobile Police Department will also be hosting the Crime Prevention 5K Run/Walk through downtown Mobile starting at 6:30 p.m. Registration for the 5K can be found at McCoy Outdoor and Run-N-Tri in Mobile or Running Wild in Fairhope through 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 4, online registration at www.imathlete.com by midnight Aug. 5 or day of race until 6:00 PM at Bienville Square.
