Mobile Police Department’s New Sex Offender Watch

Sep 18th, 2008

On September 18, 2008 the Mobile Police Department launched Offender Watch, a new tool that will enable citizens of Mobile to identify sex offenders living in close proximity to their neighborhoods. This interactive tool is a citizen-friendly, easy to use sex offender registry web site that will give citizens direct access to the sex offender information.

The web site is being provided through a federal grant obtained by the Mobile Community Corrections Center. The purpose of the program is to lessen the anxiety of citizens by proactively alerting them should an offender move within proximity to them. Additionally, the program seeks to enhance the security and safety of Mobile citizens. Once a citizen accesses the web site, they can use a tutorial that explains how to navigate the web page. Citizens will be able to enter an address and see a map with a list of offenders within one mile of that address. Citizens may also register an address to be continuously monitored by the system, which will send an e-mail alerting them if an offender moves within one mile of the registered address. The service is no cost to the citizen.

Citizens can access Offender Watch registry 24 hours a day, 7 days a week on the Mobile Police Department’s web site at www.cityofmobile.org/mobilepd and click the Search Sex Offenders icon.
