Mobile Police Department Taking Applications for Youth Academy

If your child is pondering a career in law enforcement or if they just want to see what police officers do from day-to-day, register them now for the Mobile Police Department’s Youth Citizens’ Academy. The five-week class is free and open to youths ages 10 to 19 who reside in the police jurisdiction of Mobile and will meet once-a-week from 6:00-8:30 p.m. June 16 - July 25, 2009.

Topics of instruction include but are not limited to patrol operations, radar demonstrations, narcotics and vice, juvenile law, crime scene investigation, and hostage negotiation. The class will also take weekend field trips to the J.O. Davis Correctional Facility in Atmore, The Mobile Metro Jail, and the 911 Communications Center.

Anyone interested in applying for the program should call the Training Academy at 208-2730 or download an application at www.cityofmobile.org/mobilepd. Applications are accepted at any time and classes will be filled on a first-come, first-serve basis. Class size is limited. Background checks will be required and no applicant with a felony conviction will be admitted to the program.
