Mobile Police Add New Motorcycle Officers

Jun 15th, 2006

Mayor Sam Jones, along with interim Police Chief Lester Hargrove, is proud to announce the addition of 8 new motorcycles and officers to be assigned to the Traffic Unit of the Mobile Police Department. The new motorcycles were shown off during a training session at Hank Aaron Stadium.

“Public safety is my top priority,” said Mayor Jones. ”There is no other way to keep citizens safe on the road than through enforcement.”

Chief Hargrove added that motorcycle officers command a great enforcement presence in the field. The city hopes to raise the current number of motorcycle traffic enforcement officers from 4 to 18, with 8 motor cops on each shift, and two spares.

“We have a lot of parades and other motorcades that necessitate motorcycle units” said Mayor Jones. “Our goal is to have the top motor unit in the state.”
