Mobile Mayor Sam Jones Announces Relief Campaign in Conjunction with the MoonPie Over Mobile to Benefit Tornado Victims
Dec 28th, 2012
Just before the clock strikes 11 p.m. prior to the performance of Grammy-award winning group - The Commodores, Mobile Mayor Sam Jones and Red Cross officials will issue an urgent plea to New Year's Eve revelers at MoonPie Over Mobile to make a donation to the American Red Cross to aid tornado-stricken victims in the city.
"The City of Mobile is resilient and we know how to band together to help each other," said Mayor Jones. "Though we are grateful that there was no loss of life in our city, we know there is a lot of structural damage to homes, churches, a historic school and businesses. New Year's Eve is a time that we reflect back with heartfelt thanksgiving, so it is only befitting we do something at this time."

“We are so thankful that the City of Mobile has reached out to support the Red Cross relief efforts for the Christmas Day tornado, where more than 650 homes in Mobile County were impacted,” said Leisle E. Mims, Executive Director of the Alabama Gulf Coast Chapter American Red Cross.
“Despite having received massive damage to our disaster response vehicles from the December 20 tornado, we were able to call in other Red Cross resources to ensure quick response to this disaster,” said Mims.
“Volunteers gave up spending time with their families to help others in need. We are forever grateful for our volunteer and donor support,” said Mims.
