Mobile, Ala. — The City of Mobile and the Mobile Police and Fire Pension Board have launched a smartphone application to help active and retired first responders of the Mobile Police Department and the Mobile Fire-Recue Department manage their pensions.
The Mobile Police and Fire Pension’s (MPFP) App is the first phase of an effort to modernize the user experience for all members of the MPFP plan. This easy-to-use, convenient, and informative App is designed to serve MPFP plan members and provide up-to-date information about their individual pension plans and retirement options.
With a secure login and password, MPFP plan members can access essential documents and forms, as well as information regarding the status of their pension plan and contributions. The MPFP’s App also features a Pension Estimator Tool that can calculate the estimated payout for plan members and their designated beneficiaries. The App was developed in partnership with Pension Technology Group, a reputable pension software management firm headquartered in Boston, MA.
To avoid impending insolvency in the early 90’s, the City of Mobile adopted an aggressive 30-year plan to fully fund and secure the MPFP plan. Mayor Sandy Stimpson’s administration has continued to invest in making the MPFP plan solvent, and it is currently on track to be fully funded by the end of 2027.
“I hope the launch of this smartphone app signals to our members that we are invested in the future of their pensions and ensuring the City of Mobile keeps its promises to our first responders.” Mayor Sandy Stimpson said. “I want to thank the MPFP Board and the members of our staff who worked tirelessly to select, design and launch an app to better serve our members.”
The MPFP App officially launches on April 19, 2023. Active and retired pension members will soon receive information about how to access the App and set up an account. If you’re an MPFP member with questions about the App, contact John Schaffer at jschaffer@ptg-pension or (857) 245-8704. For pension-related concerns, please reach out to an MPFP staff member at (251) 208-7360.
