Mobile International Festival Press Release

Nov 14th, 2003

(MOBILE, Ala) - England's King Arthur; Johnny Appleseed of the early Americas; Poland’s Black Madonna; and Pele of the Hawaiian islands... legends with a special place in the hearts of those who live in those lands.

Every culture has traditions that unite its people. But, they’re more than just rich folk-telling legacy… they are how many in a culture identify themselves. This year’s Mobile International Festival celebrates legends from 75 cultures around the world.
Helping thousands travel world without leaving the city limits is no small feat. MIF has made that a reality for school children and adults for 20 years. During that time, the festival grew from a backyard affair to a 75 country extravaganza filling Mobile's Convention Center. Doing so, MIF twice ranked "Top 20 Events in the Southeast" by the Southeast Tourism Society, and "Event of the Year" four consecutive years by Alabama’s Bureau of Tourism & Travel.

With passport in hand, visitors work their way through four continents of Mobilians with ties to these cultures as they pass on tales of bravery and humor, sharing the legends that shaped their home country’s past and future.

After filling heart and mind within culture, the cuisine of these cultures tantalize the taste buds while the eyes and ears feast upon song and dance on stage.

Share in the legends of the world with the Mobile International Festival Saturday, November 22nd from ten to 6 in the Mobile Convention Center. Call 470-7730 for ticket information. Visit the MIF web site at www.mobileinternationalfestival.org.
