Mobile Firefighters to Kickoff Fill-the-Boot Campaign for Muscular Dystrophy Association

Mar 19th, 2009

Mobile Firefighters take to the streets to kickoff the annual Fill-the-Boot campaign for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) this Saturday, March 21, from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. at 3 locations throughout the Mobile area.

Beginning March 21 and consecutive Saturdays through April 25th Mobile Firefighters will try to outdo their record breaking Fill-the-Boot totals from 2008 of over $62,000 donated from the citizens of Mobile to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Firefighters will be at major intersections with their boots so that motorist may give their dollars and change to help fire fighters in their support of MDA.

Last year’s total of $62,000 directly benefits area children and adults battling neuromuscular disorders. Mayor Sam Jones will officially proclaim the month of April as “Firefighter Appreciation Month” to honor firefighters for their efforts on behalf of MDA.

Nationally, firefighters are the largest fundraising supporters and longest standing supporters of MDA for 46 years and counting.

The MDA Boot Drive is supported by the members of the Mobile Firefighters Association IAFF Local #1349, the Professional Black Firefighters Association and the Mobile Fire-Rescue Department.

MDA helps children and adults who are affected by any of 42 neuromuscular diseases covered by MDA’s comprehensive medical services and research programs. MDA receives no government funding and charges no fees to those served by the Association.

Please take a moment to drop some cash into a boot when you see your area firefighters out on the streets!
