Mobile Fire-Rescue Receives Fire Act Grant

Mobile Fire-Rescue Department Officials have received notification from the Department of Homeland Security that the department has been awarded a grant from the 2007 Fire Act Grant program. The department has also applied for a 2008 grant and is still waiting word on that grant.

Mobile Fire-Rescue will receive a grant totaling $686 thousand. $549 thousand of which is from the Federal government and a $137 thousand match from the City of Mobile.

The grant will fund two (2) programs within the department (1) The department’s continuing Firefighter Health and Wellness Program and (2) For Exhaust Filter Systems for all fire apparatus (trucks) which is designed to greatly reduce exhaust particulates in the stations when a fire truck engine is started to leave the station.
