Mobile Fire Rescue and Shoe Station Team Up to Help Victims of Hurricane Sandy

Nov 15th, 2012

Mobile Fire/Rescue and Shoe Stations locations will serve as the drop off sites for Mobile to donate items that will help the victims of Hurricane Sandy recover from the devastating storm.

Joined by city officials and local business leaders, a nearly two week collection campaign was announced today, an effort to collect recovery supplies for people living in the areas hardest hit by Hurricane Sandy last month.

Supplies being collected include cleaning supplies, batteries, flashlights, cold medicine, canned food, water, non-perishable food items, and toilet paper (see below for full list). New, unwrapped toys are also being collected.

Drop off sites include both Shoe Station locations (450 Bel Air Blvd and 741 Hillcrest Road), and all Mobile Fire-Rescue Stations. The collections will take place for two weeks, November 14 – 29, 2012.

This is a chance to give back to the communities who have given to us along the Gulf Coast. Every year since Hurricane Katrina, members of the Fire Department of New York have packed trucks full of Christmas gifts for kids in Alabama and Mississippi. Due to Hurricane Sandy, that trip had to be canceled this year. Now we have the chance to give back during their unprecedented recovery from Hurricane Sandy.

“We are very happy to work with Shoe Station and the Stephen Siller Foundation to support our friends in the Northeast during their time of need,” said Ed Murphy, who is leading the local collection campaign. “Just as communities have come to our aid, we stand ready to help make them whole and to rebound even better than before.”
