Mobile Fire-Rescue Adds New Station in West Mobile
Aug 1st, 2007
On Wednesday, August 1 at approximately 7 a.m. Mobile fire officials opened an additional fire station located at 7760 Hitt Road, which is the site of the former Albert P. Brewer Center. The station was designated Station 29. A fire engine will be located there 24 hours a day, seven days a week with a staff of four firefighters (Captain, Driver and two firefighters). There will also be a rescue truck (ambulance), staffed with firemedics, located at the station from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. daily. The additional station is being placed on duty to help shorten response times in the out lying areas of the city and the public safety jurisdiction. Presently the nearest stations to cover these areas are located at Hillcrest Road near Cottage Hill Road, Overlook Road, and Airport Blvd near University Blvd.
In May of this year the department did a 30 day trial period where it placed Engine 29 on duty at Mobile Regional Airport during selected times of the day.
This brings the total of fire stations in the city to eighteen, which does not include the stations located at Bates and Brookley Fields.
