Mobile City Council Adopts FY2014 Budget

The Mobile City Council adopted the FY14 budget, which includes a 2.5 percent pay raise for city employees, upgrades to Mobile BayBears Stadium and funding for several community-based agencies.

Voting in favor of the budget was Councilmembers Reggie Copeland, Fred Richardson, C. J. Smith, Gina Gregory and William Carroll. Councilmembers John Williams and Bess Rich voted against the measure.

Councilmember Copeland amended the budget by reducing the appropriation to Ladd-Peebles Stadium by $128,000 and moving $72,000 of unallocated funds from the Strategic Fund budget to upgrade the BayBears Stadium and restore $40,000 of funding to the Mobile Area Chamber of Commerce.

The budget also included a $2.5 million increase for the Police and Fire Pension Plan; $2.7 million for the expiration of the Police and Fire grants; increase for rising utility cost; $2.3 million for employee raises and other measures.
