Mobile Area Tennis Association Receives $50,000 USTA Grant
Mar 13th, 2012
The Mobile Area Tennis Association has won a $50,000 grant to bring tennis into the elementary schools for 10 and Under Tennis. The United States Tennis Association’s 10 and Under Tennis provides the opportunity to achieve immediate success by playing tennis on smaller courts, using smaller and lighter racquets and slower-moving and lower-bouncing balls.
“This is great for Mobile,” said Copeland-Cox Mobile Tennis Center Director Scott Novak. “We’re excited to get young kids interested in tennis with programming around the Mobile area.”
The Copeland-Cox Mobile Tennis Center, the world’s largest public tennis facility with more than 60 courts, currently hosts the USTA National 18’s Tennis Tournament. Dozens of other tournaments contribute millions of dollars annually to the local economy.
In total, USTA will disperse $900,000 in grants nationally to support its youth initiative and fund tennis programs. Other communities receiving grants include Atlanta, San Juan, Pensacola, and San Francisco.
