Mobile African-American Heritage Trail Inaugural School Bus Tour and Teacher Training

Jan 21st, 2011

The Mobile African-American Heritage Trail will embark on its inaugural School Bus Tour this Saturday, January 22, 12:15 p.m., from the Museum of Mobile, 111 South Royal Street. The School Bus Tour has been designed to complement the Mobile County Public School System’s fourth grade Alabama history curriculum, and will introduce students to Mobile’s African American history while including historical points of interest along the way.

A Teacher’s Seminar will be held at the Museum of Mobile beginning at 9:00 a.m., prior to the school bus tour. The purpose of the seminar is to train all fourth grade teachers to function as guides for this interactive educational school bus tour.

The Mobile African-American Heritage School Bus Tour field trip will be available to every fourth grade class in Mobile County beginning this February. The inaugural School Bus Tour will replicate the ride that students will take into Mobile’s culturally diverse past.

The Teacher’s Seminar and the inaugural School Bus Tour is open to all fourth grade teachers in Mobile County free of charge. To make a reservation, please call (251) 533-0994 or email doradaexplorer@bellsouth.net.

The Teacher’s Seminar and the Inaugural School Bus Tour are made possible through a grant from the Alabama Humanities Foundation, the University of South Alabama Instructional Design Department, Museum of Mobile, and Mobile County.
