Michigan Avenue Bridge Renamed to Honor Longtime Williamson Principal
Jul 9th, 2013
On Tuesday, July 9, 2013, the Mobile City Council approved the renaming of the Michigan Avenue Bridge to honor the late Mr. Lemuel Keeby. Mr. Keeby was a longtime principal of Williamson High School and mentored countless numbers of residents in the city's Maysville community. He was a direct descendant of the slaves from the last slave ship to arrive in America, the Clotilda.
The new bridge, which replaced an old one when its construction was completed late last year, serves as a main entrance to Mobile Brookely Aeroplex.
Below, Councilman C.J. Small, whose district includes the bridge, presents a sign to Mr. Keeby's family members.
