MEMORIAL DAY STATEMENT FROM MAYOR SANDY STIMPSON

May 29th, 2017

Mobile, Ala. -- Today, Mayor Stimpson released the following Memorial Day statement recognizing those who have lost their lives in the line of duty.

Stimpson said, "Memorial Day is a day to honor all of the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice serving our country, many of whom began their lives right here in Mobile. They are the true heroes who always put others before themselves. Their selflessness, integrity and bravery will never be forgotten. It's important that we continue to uphold their legacy and remember their contributions to our country today and every day."

The City of Mobile is breathing new life into the World War I Monument located at Memorial Park near the iconic cannon. A plaque naming all of the Mobilians who died during World War I was recently installed and nearly $19,000 of capital improvement funds have been allocated to clean and repair the historic landmark.
