Meet Joshua Kersey, April's Officer of the Month

Officer Joshua Kersey, a four-year Mobile Police Department veteran assigned to the Third Precinct, has been named April Officer of the Month for his exceptional performance and dedication to his job.

The following incidents are some of which earned Officer Kersey the distinction of Officer of the Month:

• On April 3, Officer Kersey was traveling down St. Stephens Rd. when he observed a cyclist causing a traffic hazard. He stopped the subject, checked for warrants, and made an arrest for two felony and two misdemeanor warrants.

• On April 6, a detective from the Third Precinct asked Officer Kersey to assist her in locating a suspect. The same day, Officer Kersey located the suspect and she was subsequently charged with two felonies and two misdemeanors.

• On April 8, 2009, a Third Precinct Sergeant asked for Officer Kersey’s assistance in locating a burglary suspect. In a few short hours, Officer Kersey had located the suspect and transported him to the precinct to be interviewed. He was arrested and charged with Burglary Third Degree and Illegal Possession of a Credit Card.

• On April 9, the Robbery Unit issued a notice regarding a known robbery suspect. Officer Kersey located the suspect the same day and transported him to Headquarters where he was arrested and charged with Robbery First Degree.

• On April 13, Officer Kersey was asked by a detective to locate a subject in reference to a stolen vehicle. Just hours later, the suspect was delivered to the detective and charged with Theft of Property First Degree.

• On April 21, Officer Kersey made a traffic stop involving a Chevrolet Tahoe. The vehicle was determined stolen and the driver was arrested and charged with Receiving Stolen Property First Degree.

• Officer Kersey was dispatched to a burglary in progress on April 24. When he arrived, he observed two suspects carrying items from the residence. He apprehended both subjects and transported them to the Third Precinct where they were charged with Burglary Third Degree, Receiving Stolen Property Third Degree, Possession of a Controlled Substance, and No Pistol Permit.

• On April 29, Officer Kersey backed another officer on a burglary call. The victim advised the officers of the location of the subject. Officer Kersey located the subject at his residence and transported him to the Third Precinct where he was interviewed and charged with Attempted Burglary Second Degree and nine misdemeanor warrants.

• On April 30, Officer Kersey was informed that a suspect broke into a residence n the Third Precinct. Within two hours, he located the suspect who was interviewed and charged with Burglary Second Degree.

During the month of April, Officer Kersey was responsible for making 30 felony and 75 misdemeanor arrests, as well as answering 75 calls for service and backing fellow officers 18 times. His persistent attention to detail and keen observations have made the city streets of Mobile a safer place for its citizens.
