Mayor’s Weed & Seed “I Pledge: ACT Program” to Hold First Meeting

Jan 15th, 2010

On Saturday, January 23, 2010 the “I Pledge: ACT Program” will hold its first Commitment meeting at the Dumas Wesley Community Center at 126 Mobile St. from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m. We have invited Colonel Tim Rey and the Military Cadets from the University of South Alabama ROTC Military Science Division to attend and partner with our ACT Prep Program. The meeting is to allow the students to get familiar with each other and also with the ROTC cadets.

The City of Mobile Mayor’s Office of Strategic Initiatives (MOSI) coordinated Weed and Seed efforts for the Toulminville/Crichton area. Weed and Seed is a federally funded grant that provides not only law enforcement programs but also provides services that build community pride and respect. The MOSI has created “ I Pledge: ACT,” a program that provides instruction and education to High School students of the ACT testing process when making application to institutions of higher learning. We encourage students to take the ACT as many times as possible to achieve the highest score they can, and we will assist in locating resources to assist with the cost of testing. Our goal is to further their education through college. Colonel Tim Rey from the Army ROTC and their Military Cadets will provide tutoring for the students.
