Mayor Stimpson welcomes software development company to Mobile

Jan 21st, 2014

MOBILE, Ala. - Mayor Sandy Stimpson joined state and county officials to announce that Rural Sourcing Inc. will open a software development center in Mobile that will create 100 new jobs.

"We are pleased and excited to welcome RSI as our newest corporate citizen in Mobile," Stimpson said today. "We recruited them aggressively because they represent the kind of business we want to cultivate – young, smart, innovative and poised for future growth."

The Atlanta-based firm said it conducted a nationwide search for the project and chose Mobile due to the city's high quality of life and low cost of living.

The company's mission is to be the onshore alternative for software development and support that might traditionally be offshored to countries such as India and China.

Stimpson said the project is particularly valuable because the company intends to locate the new office in downtown Mobile, helping boost his efforts to revitalize the city's downtown area.

"It's a great step toward our goal of making Mobile the safest, most business and family-friendly city in America by 2020," Stimpson said. "These are the kind of jobs every community would love to have. It's great partners like RSI that are going to help us bring our young people home, and keep them from moving away."

Stimpson joined Alabama Secretary of Commerce Greg Canfield, Mobile County Commissioner Connie Hudson and Monty Hamilton, chief executive officer of Rural Sourcing Inc., in making the announcement today at the Mobile Area Chamber of Commerce.

"We are excited to be an early investor and catalyst for the tremendous growth in the digital economy in Mobile," said Hamilton. "This office will give us the capacity to meet the continued growth and demand for software developers in the areas of mobile technologies, cloud-based technologies and ERP systems such as SAP."

The opening of the new development center will take place February 1, 2014. The company will temporarily reside in leased office space at 456 Civic Center Drive while it evaluates downtown sites for a permanent home.
