Mayor Stimpson to light City of Mobile menorah

Dec 7th, 2015

MOBILE, Ala. - For the second year in a row, Mayor Sandy Stimpson will light Mobile's public menorah on the second night of Hanukkah. The Menorah lighting will take place at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, December 7, in Bienville Square. The menorah will remain in the park the next 7 nights in recognition of the Jewish holiday.

"During Hanukkah, the menorah stands as a symbol of light to dispel darkness," said Stimpson. "This is only fitting at such a bright time in Mobile's history. Mobile has a strong heritage of embracing people of different faiths, and this menorah embodies the spirit of One Mobile."

Following the menorah lighting, spectators will also enjoy a performance from rock singer Dr. Laz. Dr. Laz has entertained hundreds of audiences across America including the U.S. Congress and Madison Square Garden. The "Dreidel Man" will be passing out free treats during the performance.

This family friendly event will also feature a raffle, free crafts, Hanukkah t-shirts, hot latkes, jelly doughnuts, gelt, candy-filled dreidels and more.
