Mayor Stimpson to kick off City of Mobile's Zoning Overhaul

"When we embarked on the Map for Mobile planning process, we promised to use it as a 'living document' with action plans developed and reviewed on an annual basis. This next step will outline methods and approaches the City will follow to implement zoning, land use, code and ordinance changes. These improvements will foster growth and be a catalyst for economic development." - Mayor Stimpson.Mayoral Action:
As directed by the Map for Mobile, Mayor Stimpson has launched an overhaul of the zoning code led by White & Smith, LLC, a national land use law practice. To jumpstart the two-year process and to gain additional insight about the City of Mobile, the City is hosting a kickoff week for the firm.
Kickoff Week Events:
- Meetings with City staff, technical committees and other stakeholders
- Presentations before the City Council and Planning Commission
- Tours of Mobile's neighborhoods
Map for Mobile: Framework for Growth
- Last year, the City completed the community-wide planning process, Map for Mobile: Framework for Growth.
- This process identified the community's desired vision for growth, specifically regarding land use and transportation issues.
- The Mobile Planning Commission adopted the Map for Mobile on November 5, 2015 as the City's new comprehensive plan.
