Mayor Stimpson to host community workshop

Mar 26th, 2015

MOBILE, Ala. - Mayor Sandy Stimpson will host a "Focus on the Future" community workshop where citizens can share their vision for the future of Mobile. The workshop will be held on Monday, March 30, at Government Street Baptist Church, 3401 Government Blvd.

The workshop will provide an overview of the mayor's initiative to create long-range, comprehensive plan for all of Mobile. It is part of a community-driven process known as the "Map for Mobile" which will make recommendations for preservation, revitalization and growth across the city.

The planning process will be closely aligned with ongoing economic and community development activities, will engage Mobile's diverse citizens and, perhaps most importantly, will include realizable action steps to ensure that recommendations become reality.

"This is your opportunity to share your hopes and aspirations for Mobile," said Mayor Stimpson. "Everyone's ideas will be considered no matter how small. We need everyone's input to ensure this plan is a true roadmap for the City of Mobile."

This is the first time a long range plan has encompassed all areas of the city and the first time in 20 years a comprehensive plan has been conducted in Mobile.

At the workshop on Monday, citizens will be able to learn about the timeframe and key issues for the comprehensive plan. Participants will also have the opportunity to share their ideas about the future of Mobile through engaging and fun interactive activities. It's a chance for every citizen to have a say early on in the process about what is important to them. Everyone is encouraged to attend.

"Mobile is poised for its next great leap," Stimpson said. "Join us, and be a part of making Mobile all it can be."
