Mobile, Ala. - Mayor Stimpson has selected Brian Underwood to be the City of Mobile's Deputy Director of Long-Range Planning. He will lead the City's long-range planning and urban design functions.

Underwood earned a Bachelor degree in Environmental Science from Auburn University and a Masters of Public Administration degree from the University of West Florida. He has worked with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, the Sandestin Resort Development Group and The St. Joe Company in Legal and Regulatory Affairs. While employed as a Planning Manager with The St. Joe Company in Gulf County, Florida, he served as a member of the Gulf County Economic Development Council.

Most recently, Underwood has been working as a Senior Planner with the Planning and Development Services Division in Walton County, Florida. For the past 20 years, he has been employed in urban and environmental planning in both private and public sector positions. He is a Certified Planner with the American Planning Association and a Certified Floodplain Manager with the Association of State Floodplain Managers.

"We are pleased to have Brian join our City Planning team," said Mayor Stimpson. "Brian's extensive background in planning makes him an ideal candidate to move the City's long range planning needs forward."

Last year, the City realigned all current and future planning functions under the City Planning department to ensure implementation of Map for Mobile, the community-wide plan for future growth.
