Mayor Stimpson Statement on Veterans Day

Nov 11th, 2015

MOBILE, Ala. - Today, Mayor Stimpson released the following Veterans Day statement recognizing those who have served America in the line of duty.

Stimpson said, "Veteran's Day is a day to honor all of the men and women who have served our country. This day is especially dear to my heart, because so many members of my own family have served in the military. Their sacrifice has always amazed me. There are thousands of veterans who live right here in Mobile -- my brother and son among them. I challenge the citizens of Mobile to reach out to these men and women and thank them for their service. It's so important that we lift them up, not just today, but every day."

Mayor Stimpson observed Veterans Day this morning at the USS Alabama Battleship Memorial Park, where he presented a proclamation to Major John Jacobson, 105, who served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Also today, he will ride in the Veterans Day Parade in downtown Mobile, and deliver remarks at the annual Veterans Day Luncheon at Fort Whiting where he will assist in awarding the Patriot and Veteran of the Year awards.
