May 22nd, 2015

MOBILE, Ala. - Mayor Stimpson today recognized four newly promoted captains at the Mobile Fire-Rescue Department (MFRD).

Michael Chestang, Steven McEvoy, Chad Sprinkle and Jon Wilson were promoted to the rank of captain after an interview process and a written exam. All four were previously drivers for the department and have worked for MFRD for more than 10 years. They will each receive a 10 percent raise.

Stimpson presented each new captain with a helmet and badge.

"Each of these men has showed great leadership in helping MFRD move forward," said Stimpson. "These promotions are a recognition of their commitment to serving our community. Together, they will help us become the safest, most business and family friendly city in America."

Stimpson addressed the new captains during a meeting at the Toulminville Fire Station on Friday. The captains were introduced during a news conference attended by city officials including Fire Chief Billy Pappas.

Captain Chestang has worked 14 years with the department and is a fourth generation Mobile firefighter. His father also retired from the department as a Captain, and his grandfather, great-grandfather and uncle were also members of MFRD.

Sprinkle has also worked for the department for 14 years and has family connections as well. His brother is also a member of MFRD. McEvoy has worked for the department for 16 years and Wilson has worked for the department for 12 years as a paramedic.
