Mayor Stimpson officially declared the City of Mobile the "2015 High School Football Capital of Alabama" via a proclamation during Tuesday's City Council meeting.

This year, McGill-Toolen High School defeated Spain Park High School to claim Alabama's Class 7A Championship and St. Paul's Episcopal School defeated Mortimer Jordan High School to claim Alabama's Class 5A Championship.

"I want to congratulate St. Paul's Episcopal School and McGill-Toolen Catholic High School for winning the state championships in their divisions," said Mayor Stimpson. "We applaud the achievements of our Student Athletes not only on the football field, but in the classroom. We also recognize parents, coaches, educators, and all those who instill in our children the importance of education and teamwork."

The City of Mobile is also home to the nationally-renowned Senior Bowl and the NCAA post-season GoDaddy Bowl.

"Football is a strong tradition in Mobile," said Stimpson. "This City has produced legendary athletes in the National Football League including Robert Brazile, Scott Hunter, Riley Smith and Richard Todd. I look forward to following the careers of this new generation of athletes."
