Mayor Stimpson proclaims June as Immigrant Heritage Month

Jun 17th, 2014

MOBILE, Ala. - Mayor Sandy Stimpson today proclaimed June 2014 as "Immigrant Heritage Month" in the City of Mobile.

The effort is part of a nationwide initiative organized by Welcome.us to gather and share inspirational stories of immigration in America.

"Generations of immigrants from all over the globe have made Mobile their home, ever since the city's founding by French explorers more than three centuries ago," Mayor Stimpson said. "Immigrants help give our nation its unique character, and they are continuing to grow businesses, strengthen our economy and create American jobs in Mobile, Alabama."

Stimpson signed a proclamation today recognizing the contribution that immigrants have made to Mobile throughout its history.

"Mobile is home to people from all over the world who contribute to the character of our city - culturally, economically and historically - and make the city what it is today," said Stimpson.
