MOBILE, Ala. - Mayor Sandy Stimpson is pleased to announce that he is launching the Mayor's Initiative on Tourism. The effort will be lead by the Mayor's office and begin to tie together all of the wonderful arts, cultural and attraction amenities the City of Mobile has to offer to both our citizens and guests. For over 300 years, Mobile has been a hub of international trade and a place of exploration and innovation. Through the Tourism Initiative, the Mayor looks forward to sharing Mobile's story with millions of new guests to our city."For too long, Mobile has not realized its potential as a tourism and leisure traveler destination,"said Mayor Stimpson. "We must identify who we are and what we have to offer. With the forward momentum we are experiencing in Mobile, we have an incredible opportunity to bring all the stakeholders to the table and begin to put the ribbon around this package that is an exceptional place to visit. It's time to invite the world to enjoy our great city."
The core components of the Tourism Initiative are to:
- Transform the current guest experience and exceed their expectations;
- Create new vibrancy and reasons for guests to visit and stay in Mobile;
- Enhance Mobile's image;
- Emphasize our history, eco-tourism, maritime and aerospace opportunities;
- Bolster civic pride among Mobilians;
- Recruit a cruise line(s) back to Mobile;
- Add jobs to the hospitality sector by attracting talent and businesses to Mobile especially destination management companies;
- Grow visitor numbers and hotel room nights annually;
- Increase local tax revenue generated by the tourism industry; and,
- Instill confidence that we can be ourselves, not another city, and compete with the best destinations in America!
In the coming weeks and months, more major announcements regarding the Tourism Initiative will be announced.
"As we create One Mobile and become the safest, most business and family-friendly city in America, we can also become one of America's top destinations for global travelers," Stimpson concluded.
