Mobile, Ala. - Mayor Sandy Stimpson today announced the four latest members of his Employee Recognition Program. The City of Mobile's February Employees of the Month are Eileen Corkern and Lisa Foster.Under Corkern's leadership, solid waste, parks and public building vehicles are now equipped with DriveCam systems. Corkern coached employees on the benefits of the new equipment and worked closely with departmental supervisors on how to mentor their employees to improve driving skills and reduce risk.
"Eileen is the driving force behind our vehicle safety program," said Mayor Stimpson. "Because of her tenacity and perseverance, the program has drastically improved and the number of accidents has plummeted."
Last year, the EMS Billing Department moved to a new electronic patient care reporting system eliminating six obsolete programs. Foster was a dedicated leader during this transition period quickly adapting to the new system and training others on the new program.
"All time of transition are scary," said Mayor Stimpson. "Foster demonstrated a high level of dedication during this challenging time. She embraced the new workflow and worked with others who resisted change."
The City March employees of the month are Mary Theall and Sherryl Cunningham.
During the course of implementing the Tyler Technologies software system in Municipal Court, Theall took all of the classes available in the community twice to gain a deep understanding of the new system. She volunteered to assist other clerks with the process and helped the prosecutors and probation officers understand how to work the new system.
"During the new software implementation, Mary went above and beyond her normal duties and hours," said Mayor Stimpson. "She never shies away from any challenge and is a mentor to her peers in Municipal Court."
During the migration of the new financial system, Cunningham played a critical role converting financial data, creating files, and developing interfaces to other City systems.
"Sherryl's attention to detail, cooperation and can-do attitude makes her a valuable asset to the City," said Mayor Stimpson. "She exemplifies the type of employee that will move this City forward."
Each employee of the month will receive a $500 bonus for their exemplary work performance. Mayor Stimpson began the Employee Recognition Program immediately after stepping into his office to reward employees who use innovation to reduce costs and improve services for the citizens of Mobile. He sets aside $50,000 of his mayoral salary each year to fund the program.
