Mayor Stimpson honors Employee of the Month

Mar 11th, 2015

MOBILE, Ala. - Mayor Sandy Stimpson recognized Anne Powell as the City of Mobile's Employee of the Month for March. Powell, who works in the city's IT Department, is credited with helping the 2015 Senior Bowl pull off a trouble-free broadcast.

In the day leading up to one of college football's premier events, the NFL television network was encountering problems with its live broadcast using City of Mobile PBX lines. Powell worked behind the scenes to replace three lines before viewers tuned into the 2015 Senior Bowl.

She ordered and installed three lines in a record time of two days. Without these new lines, the broadcast would have been at risk for interference.

"Many people are unaware of all the moving parts behind large scale events like the Senior Bowl," said Mayor Stimpson. "It's employees like Anne that ensure these events go off without a hitch. She pre-empted what could have been an embarrassment for Mobile and ensured it was a success."

Powell was nominated by Sue Farni, Executive Director of the IT Department, and was recognized by Mayor Stimpson during Tuesday's meeting of the Mobile City Council.

"Anne's can-do attitude and dedication to the City of Mobile is a model for others to follow," said Farni. "I believe that Anne exemplifies the type of employee that makes the City great."
