MAYOR STIMPSON EMPOWERS MOBILIANS TO LIVE HEALTHY LIVES

Apr 28th, 2014

MOBILE, Ala. - Mayor Sandy Stimpson kicked off National Walk Day today in front of Government Plaza furthering his commitment to encourage a healthy lifestyle, fight obesity and improve wellness in the City of Mobile. Mayor Stimpson aims to increase access to preventive health resources and increase nutritional education to combat the high rates of chronic illness in Mobile.

"I am challenging my fellow Mobilians to get healthy and stay healthy with me," Stimpson said. "My One Fit Mobile commitment is for my team to lose 50 pounds and walk 500 miles by the end of the year. It's a quality of life issue, I want to encourage our communities to motivate one another, organize vigorous activities to walk and bike instead of drive and to focus on nutrition which will improve our overall health."

Recently, several events have been held with a focus on health and nutrition. Over the weekend, One Fit Mobile held a Kickoff event and weight loss challenge, with a scheduled "weigh-in" on May 12. In honor of National Walk Day, fitness classes were held in Bienville Square today.
