Mayor Stimpson Announces New Fire Chief

Mobile, Ala. -- After conducting a comprehensive internal search within the Mobile Fire-Rescue Department (MFRD), Mayor Stimpson has announced Mark Sealy as the new Fire Chief.

"Chief Sealy has demonstrated outstanding leadership in MFRD," said Mayor Stimpson "His leadership, confidence and ability to execute a strategic plan made him the ideal candidate for the position. I firmly believe he will lead us on the path to becoming the safest City in America. We hope that the City Council will approve the appointment as quickly as possible to ensure continuity."

Sealy has served the City of Mobile for over 25 years and is currently the District Chief of Training. Prior to joining MFRD, he served in the United States Marine Corps, where he was awarded numerous commendations for devotion to duty.

He has a Bachelor's degree in Fire Science, a paramedic license, and numerous technician-level certificates, among which is the extraordinarily demanding Alabama Smoke Divers certificate. He is currently enrolled in the Executive Fire Officer Program at the National Fire Academy in Emmitsburg, Maryland.

"It is a tremendous honor to for me to be selected to lead the Mobile Fire-Rescue Department," said Chief Sealy. "I view this as an opportunity to take a good fire department and make it the best fire department in the country."

The search was narrowed down from 13 candidates to five after each applicant submitted a strategic plan and endured individual assessments. After conducting in depth interviews of all the finalists, the committee unanimously selected Sealy as the top candidate. Mayor Stimpson accepted the committee's unanimous recommendation and offered Sealy the opportunity to become Mobile's next Fire Chief.

By statute, the mayor's appointment of a new fire chief must be confirmed by the Mobile City Council.

The selection committee consisted of Public Safety Director James Barber, management consultant Dan Lumpkin, Innovation Team Director Jeff Carter and Montgomery Fire Chief Miford Jordan.
