Mayor Jones Welcomes the Carnival Elation

Mayor Sam Jones was on board Mobile's newest cruise ship, the Elation, as it collected its passengers for its maiden voyage from the Alabama Cruise Terminal on Saturday, May 15, 2010. Mayor Jones and the ship's captain, Adriano Binacchi, exchanged plaques during the welcoming celebration.

The Elation has 1,026 staterooms, four restaurants, two swimming pools and 12 lounges and bars, and includes a 1,300-seat theater and a 12,000-square-foot health club. The ship carries 920 crewmembers.

The ship will make regular four-day cruises to Cozumel, and five-day cruises stopping in Cozumel and Calica or Progreso, Mexico. Overall, the ship will make 74 departures from Mobile each year, and is projected to carry 170,000 passengers.
