Mayor Jones Welcomes International Shipholding Corporation

Mayor Sam Jones, along with the City Council and other local agencies proudly announced the arrival of International Shipholding Corporation (NYSE: ISH) to Mobile. The company, along with about 150 employees is moving its headquarters and Central Gulf Railway to Mobile, a move that should be complete by early next year.“I am very excited about International Shipbuilding Corporation deciding to call Mobile home,” said Mayor Jones. “Their company serves a great need for this area, and will be a tremendous asset for Mobile and the rest of Alabama.”
The company is making a $23 million investment in a new rail ferry terminal at the Port of Mobile. The terminal will feature a twin deck design that will allow two ship decks to be loaded.
When operational, the CG Railway will provide 4-day rail service between Mobile and Mexico. Traditional rail service takes as long as 30 days.
