Mayor Sam Jones welcomed Diana Brinson, executive director with HandsOn South Alabama to the Council Meeting on Tuesday, April 24, 2012. He presented her with a proclamation recognizing Volunteer Month in the City of Mobile.

HandsOn South Alabama has placed over 7,000 trained volunteers in local community partners working in education, the environment, emergency response, and health and human services.

The estimated value of a volunteer hour is $21.36 and HandsOn South Alabama’s local impact of its volunteers exceeds $1.5 million annually.

HandsOn South Alabama through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program has returned over $650,000 to local families and helped educate them on strategies to build financial security.
