Mayor Jones Recognizes Officer of the Month, MFRD Technical Rescue Team

Feb 10th, 2009

Mayor Sam Jones welcomed the January Officer of the Month, Officer John Spottswood to the February 10 City Council meeting. This is Officer Spottswood's fourth time to be named Officer of the Month in just six years.

In January alone, Officer Spottswood answered 48 calls for service and served as back-up on 24 calls. He made four felony arrests, two misdemeanor arrests, and wrote two traffic citations. His persistent attention to detail and dedication to his job have significantly contributed to the success of the Mobile Police Department.

Also at the meeting, Mayor Jones recognized 3 of our firefighters who have taken on the task of training search dogs. These dogs are a part of Mobile Fire Rescue’s Technical Rescue Team as well as Alabama Task Force 1, our Urban Search and Rescue team. The dogs were recently certified as FEMA search dogs. There are only about 100 FEMA search dogs in the United States and now we have 3 right here in Mobile. These men are to be commended for their hard work and dedication. This is a 24 hours a day, 7 days a week commitment.

They are as follows:

Phillip Richardson and his dog Jake
Kenny Tillman and his dog Bear
Keith Everett and his dog Bella
