Mayor Jones Honors May Officer of the Month

Jun 13th, 2006

An obviously distraught citizen last May flagged down a Mobile police officer returning from an extra job at sunup. Frantically waving down the officer on Cottage Hill Road at I-65, the 40-year-old man pointed to a nearby SUV and reported that the driver and another man had tried to rob him at a nearby car wash.

Although having worked all night, Officer Patrick Palmer immediately pursued the driver and took him into custody. He then searched the area, located the second suspect, and chased him down on foot.

Officer Palmer, in recognition of his quick action and attention to detail, has been named Officer of the Month for May.

Both suspects in the early morning incident were charged with Robbery First Degree and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Later investigation revealed that one of the suspects has been connected to a series of “smash and grab” burglaries.

“Officer Palmer has proven himself to be a credit to his squad and the Mobile Police Department, Additionally, his off-duty actions prove that the take-home car program is a valuable asset to the citizens of Mobile,” said his supervisor, Lt. Kara Fagan.

Palmer served six years in the U.S. Marines. He joined the Mobile Police Department in 2003.
