The Southwest Alabama Workforce Development Council, Inc (SAWDC) honored Mayor Sam Jones to commemorate their appreciation for his leadership, support and dedication to workforce development for the Mobile area. Mayor Jones and the city council members are working for the betterment of our citizens to realize quality benefit earning employment that not only improves our citizens’ capacity to support their family but also enrich our larger community through effective partnerships with education and businesses.

The ultimate mission of the SAWDC is to promote successful employment and a better quality of life for our region’s citizens. As a community-based 501 (c) (3) organization, we are developing and engaging strategic partnerships which attract, educate and train students and workers to better meet employer needs and foster workforce development in a global marketplace. We strive to advance the quality of life and advance the struggle for social justice in under-served communities in the eight Southwest Alabama counties that comprise Region 9 (Baldwin, Choctaw, Clarke, Conecuh, Escambia, Mobile, Monroe and Washington) by developing a comprehensive, integrated workforce development system which prepares a skilled, diverse, motivated, adaptable workforce and results in quality benefit-earning employment. Our primary goal is to promote successful employment for our people and employers, thus empowering our community to produce a sustainable prosperity throughout our region and surrounding areas.

The Executive Director, along with the members of the Council are implementing the strategic workforce development plan, which aligns and combines the objectives of workforce development: 1) the workforce sector, which is focused on providing workforce solutions; and 2) the education/training sector, which serves as the long-term provider of the regions workforce. 3) Define and integrate the needs of the community into the overall solution.

The SAWDC is a partnership network made up of employers, education and training leaders focused on promoting successful employment in the 8 counties of Southwest Alabama.
