Mayor Jones Greets New Fire & Rescue Class

Mobile Fire & Rescue Chief Steve Dean along with Mayor Sam Jones introduced the newest class of Fire and Rescue graduates. While earning their ranks as Firefighter I and Firefighter II, the class of 17 is the first in Alabama history to learn Fire Inspector I, Technical Rescue and Haz Mat Tech training.

During their 18 weeks of training, each recruit completed physical requirements consisting of sit-ups, push-ups, tower climbs, a 1.5 mile run and the combat challenge. They were also required to pass an agility test that consisted of a body drag, hose pull and tower climbs in full bunker gear.

In addition to the physical requirements, each recruit spent approximately 640 hours, meeting the academic requirements set by the Mobile Fire Rescue Department and the Alabama Fire College and Personnel Standards Commission. These hours consisted of classroom studies as well as hands on training in 21 subject areas.

Kenneth F. Montiel, III, Charles R. Moses, Jeffery J. Sewell, Michael J. Voloshik, Dennis W. Zirlott, II will join the Mobile Fire and Rescue Department. William Lambeth will join the Bay Minette Fire Department.
