Mayor Jones Cuts the Ribbon on Mobile's First Publix

Apr 24th, 2013

Mayor Sam Jones was joined by company executives, local leaders, and hundreds of eager shoppers as they cut the ribbon at Mobile's first Publix supermarket. The store, located at the corner of Hillcrest and Collage Hill Roads, opened at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, April 24, 2013.

As part of the ribbon cutting ceremony, Mayor Jones presented a resolution to the family of Gerri Cox. Ms. Cox earned the nickname of "Ms. Publix" for her efforts to bring a Publix to Mobile. Sadly, she passed away recently after an illness. Company officials thanked her family, and recognized her contributions.

Another Publix location is scheduled to open later this year at the corner of University Blvd and Airport Blvd.
