Mayor, Council Welcome Berg Steel Facility

Mayor Sam Jones and the Mobile City Council are proud to announce Berg Steel Pipe Corp has selected Mobile as the preferred site for its new spiral steel pipe manufacturing facility. The facility will be located on the former International Paper site in the Plateau community, represented by District Two Councilman William Carroll.

“We certainly welcome them to Mobile,” said Mayor Jones. “This is an industry that fits our area well and they have selected an excellent site. This is another great example of the tremendous growth our city is undertaking.”

The project is expected to invest approximately $75 million in capital and employ about 100 people. Berg officials selected Mobile over five other sites.

“Today is a great day for Mobile,” said Councilman Carroll. “We welcome the company here and know they will provide a significant economic boost to local businesses and citizens.”

It is expected that the facility will begin operations in mid-2008.
