Mayor, Council Honor Several at Meeting

Jun 6th, 2006

Mayor Sam Jones and the Mobile City Council designated several days in honor of individuals and companies that provide great services to the city.

At the council’s regular meeting on Tuesday, Councilman William Carroll presented a proclamation declaring June 6, 2006 as “Dr. Samuel Eichold Day.” Dr. Eichold, a native and lifelong resident of Mobile, was a leading practitioner serving the community as a physician and healer. Councilman Carroll also noted Dr. Eichold’s key role in the Oakleigh Garden District restoration movement.

Council Vice-President Fred Richardson honored two organizations. First, he announced that June 6, 2006 is recognized as “Alabama Power Company Day.” Councilman Richardson remarked on the 100 years of Alabama Power, and the many extraordinary accomplishments and services they have provided.

Councilman Richardson, on behalf of Mayor Jones, declared June 8, 2006 as “National Dump the Pump Day”, urging citizens to utilize the Wave Transit System. Dump the Pump Day is a way to show citizens that public transit is the best alternative to high gas prices, and the best way to combat them.
