Mayor, City Council Recognize South Alabama Coach Steve Kittrell

City Council President Reggie Copeland presented University of South Alabama Coach Steve Kittrell with a proclamation signed by Mayor Jones and the entire City Council. Coach Kittrell was recognized for becoming the 50th NCAA coach to reach the 1,000-win milestone on February 22, 2009.

Coach Kittrell, a native Mobilian who returned to his alma mater in the summer of 1983, has led South Alabama to 18 tournament appearances and 11 Sun Belt Conference championships. He has also directed within one win of the College World Series six times.

Coach Kittrell is the winningest coach in Jaguar history and one of the top 30 winningest coaches of all-time in college baseball. In his 25 years leading the Jaguars, more than 75 players have gone on to sign professional contracts and 15 have reached the big leagues. He was inducted into the University of South Alabama Athletic Hall of Fame in 1993.
