MAWSS Announces Hydrant Flushing Schedule
Jun 5th, 2012
Mobile Area Water & Sewer System (MAWSS) will be flushing fire hydrants throughout the Mobile area beginning next week. Flushing is a maintenance activity that involves opening the hydrants and allowing water to flow freely for a short period of time. Flushing helps maintain water quality by cleaning out sediment and other particulates that accumulate normally in the water mains. As a result of the flushing, water may appear milky or have some temporary discoloration. This discoloration does not affect the safety of the water. If discoloration or sediment is evident, customers may want to avoid doing laundry for that day. Allow water to run a few minutes to clear before using.
Locations scheduled to be flushed in June include Pecan Pointe, Homestead, Woodland Hills, Silver Pine Rd., Mobile Terrace, Orchard Estates, Princeton Woods, Trailwood, Briarcliff, Smokerise, Wakefield, Hamilton Bridges, Dawes Rd, Wards Lane, Charmingdale, Crabtree Lane, Legends Row and Zeigler and Cody Rd.
Signs announcing the week and day of flushing will be posted in neighborhoods affected. A monthly schedule of flushing sites can be found at www.mawss.com under “What’s New at MAWSS” or call 694-3165 for more information.
