Market on the Square Celebrates 10 Years in Downtown Mobile

Apr 21st, 2011

Market on the Square, downtown Mobile’s farmers’ market, celebrates 10 years of providing fresh, locally grown food and goods to citizens of Mobile beginning Saturday April 30th in Cathedral Square from 7:30 until 11 a.m. The City of Mobile’s Neighborhood & Community Services Department couldn’t be happier to be marking such a milestone, as they continue their mission of providing a rural and urban meeting place, while still keeping local dollars in our area. The market’s move from Government Street to Cathedral Square in 2005 marked its inception as an event that draws people into the heart of downtown to experience it restaurants, shops and beautiful buildings.

Specialty tents featuring organizations from the community, including the Wave Transit, Mobilians on Bikes and the Natural Network will join us throughout the season. In addition, we will have our regularly scheduled Tomato Tango fundraiser with the Gulf Coast Herb Society in June, the MAC sponsored Art Market every other week and a family fun picnic on May 28th to officially celebrate our 10 years in downtown Mobile.

Area farmers will be on hand with locally grown produce as well as some specialty vendors selling freshly cut flowers, seafood, wine, baked goods, goat cheese, plants and herbs. Among other offerings each week, there will be yard eggs, honey, casseroles, sausage, boiled peanuts, muffins, handcrafted goods and much more!

Market-goers are welcome to stay for live entertainment each week on the green. The event is family friendly and free. Parking along the streets is also free on the weekends.
